Miss Florida Taylor Tyson competes for Miss America crown

23-year-old Jupiter resident Taylor Tyson is living her dream. Becoming the first titleholder from the Miss South Florida Fair scholarship competition to being crowned Miss Florida 2018 earlier this year. Tonight, she will represent Florida at the Miss America 2.0 Competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The ABC televised event is scheduled for Sunday, September 9th at 9:00PM EST.

Leading up to Sunday evening's pageant, contestants participated in preliminaries this week. A classically trained pianist since the age of 4, Taylor won the pre-lim talent competition for a piano rendition of “Mephisto’s Waltz” by Lizst. Although this years revamped competition generated controversy for its decision to eliminate swimsuits, Tyson remains hopeful for the future of the pageant. She is eager to be part of the exciting movement that is empowering women, inner beauty and propelling the organization forward as Miss America 2.0. Taylor views Miss America as the ideal arena for women to be leading voices of their generation.

Since being crowned, Tyson has been a shining representative and eloquent spokeswoman for the Sunshine State. Traveling city to city, she has been remained a positive role model for young girls. At only 23 years old, Taylor’s experience in public speaking and her heart for service have been instrumental in developing her dream of connecting people to information, shedding light on important causes, and being a voice for the unheard.

Scholarships totaling nearly $506,000 will be awarded, including $50,000 for the new Miss America; $25,000 for the first runner-up; $20,000 for the second runner-up; $15,000 for the third runner-up, and $10,000 for the fourth runner up.

South Florida native Taylor Tyson is the recently crowned Miss Florida 2018 and will represent Florida at the Miss America Competition in September 9, 2018. Click to read more She is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Political Science. With a strong dedication to academics beginning in grade school, Taylor received the Nicholas Green Gifted Student Award for the state of Florida, an academic scholarship to attend the Laurel Springs Academy for the Gifted throughout high school, and remained a member of the National Honors Society.

A classically trained pianist since the age of 4, Taylor earned a spot on National Public Radio's, From the Top as the youngest pianist from Florida.

Taylor is the President of the Beethoven Beatles Foundation, a 501(c)(3) started by her family in 2004 to donate instruments to underprivileged children and inner-city schools with developing S.T.E.A.M. programs. Since its inception, the foundation has donated over $40,000 in instruments and lessons. After graduating college, Taylor sought to spearhead more causes aimed at improving children’s quality of life. She is the Palm Beach County Director of the nonprofit, For A Day Foundation, a nationwide charity which creates emotionally therapeutic experiences for terminally ill children. Additionally, she is a bi-weekly volunteer at a Palm Beach County D-rated elementary school. Her love of mentorship and child development drives her passion of raising literacy aptitudes in inner-city schools. Through her work with children, Taylor has had the opportunity to address and impact over 4,000 students in the state of Florida. Locally, Taylor regularly volunteers with her church which includes various activities from community clean-up projects to spending time with the elderly in nursing homes.
